My lenovo pen doesn't have the top button

Both happily connect to the pen and work fine with the top button for launching apps, but that's it - any attempt to write or use the other buttons has no success. These buttons can be programmed with a set collection of actions, as dictated by either windows or Lenovo software that can be downloaded quite easily from the product's support page.
